It has definitely captured the atmosphere of Eldritch horror, and Tesla as the hero is brilliant. The game-makers have been very creative in their approach to both Lovecraft and Tesla, but in a way that isn’t disrespectful to their legacies. The smaller ones are even impeded by all the same obstacles that you are, which makes the playing field reassuringly level. They move believably, with heavy, lumbering limbs that swing around them and smash through trees and fences and cars. The creatures themselves are designed in a way that feels very true to the descriptions in Lovecraft’s original stories. The carnage is intricately detailed and it takes a long time to tire of the purple limbs that get flung across the screen as your bullets tear through the hordes of ancient fish beasts. The new additions you unlock – tougher enemies and new skills – are a lot of fun to play and also make sense as recognisable elements of Lovecraftian horror. It’s challenging enough to keep you gripped, however, and does a surprisingly good job at not feeling repetitive, even though it literally repeats maps, and the level progression is identical across three different realms. The mechanics are easy to get the hang of and you can power through a solid few levels pretty quickly. Tesla vs Lovecraft isn’t all that complicated a game. Choosing which skills are going to complement each other and knowing which weapons will make the most of that combination can make or break your run. Later on, though, as the waves of monsters are accompanied by the thrashing tentacles of Cthulhu, it comes in handy to have a strategy. In the early levels in particular, it’s definitely possible to just pick up the bits and bobs with the most fire power and blast your way through the map. You also collect parts of a mech suit, which combine to form a merciless killing machine that gives you a chance to rampage in a short moment of brief carnage. You gain experience as you slaughter Lovecraft’s monsters and achieve a new skill every time you level up. You collect different weapons as you explore each map, with guns and power-ups spawning at random. You play as Nikola Tesla himself, using a vast array of weapons creatively based on Tesla’s real-life inventions to defeat Lovecraft’s horrific army of monsters and Elder gods. The game is currently available on Nintendo Switch, Steam, Xbox One, PS4 and even iOS and Android. It’s a surprise that it hasn’t been done sooner, but thankfully the itch has been finally scratched by Tesla vs Lovecraft. Lovecraft would make for something genuinely epic. Destroying Cthulhu Statues requires firepower, whereas Surveying the Hive asks for endurance. It seems obvious that combining the brilliant scientific mind of Nikola Tesla and the chilling Eldritch horrors of H. Fixing Inhibitors will require nimble feet while closing Aether Rift will require you to stand your ground. While there was only one objective in Tesla vs Lovecraft, to survive, in Tesla Force there are 5 different mission types, each with different objectives. There are also various interactive objects in the arena, such as mountable Tesla Turret, Healing Device, Sacrificial Statue, and Wishing Well. We have also added a hefty amount of new weapons, powerups, perks, and monsters. Lovecraft can use spawning points to spawn an aberration mount and warp the reality in his favor, and Mary Shelley has an autonomous bodyguard named Mechenstein. While Nikola Tesla is the master of Special Abilities, Marie Curie can dual-wield small weapons to great effect. We have 4 different playable characters, each with unique aspects. More, Much MoreCompared to Tesla vs Lovecraft, we have added so many more features to this game. In Tesla Force players can also equip weapons and perks at the start of each game, so they'll have a limited chance to build their characters, instead of always starting from zero with nothing but a pistol. While levels in Tesla vs Lovecraft were handcrafted, Tesla Force sports an endless amount of procedurally generated levels. You can risk it by challenging the Elite Monsters for Rare Perks, or you can play it safe and settle for lesser rewards. You can choose your path to travel, along with the challenges and rewards that come with it. You will have meaningful choices both inside and outside the arena, beyond simply acquiring upgrades. In Tesla Force, the gameplay transcends the limits of the arena. You progress on the map and use crystals to unlock helpful boons. The metagame outside the arena is simple. You either die or live long enough to see yourself become a victor. Choices made in the arena bear no consequences outside the arena. All of the gameplay is limited to that singular arena. Roguelite Tesla vs Lovecraft is an arena shooter.
